Deanna Amend, Director

Deanna Amend is very excited to return to the faculty of La Cueva High School after an eight-year assignment as Director Music Ministries at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian and two years as Choral and Drama Director atEisenhower Middle School.  Mrs. Amend holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of New Mexico with a dual concentration in choral conducting and piano and an additional endorsement in language arts.  She has served as an adjudicator and clinician in several districts in New Mexico for honor choirs, large group and solo and ensemble festivals. Mrs. Amend has extensive experience as an accompanist and in musical theatre, having been musical director for over twenty productions in the past twenty-three years as a music educator.  Mrs. Amend served the La Cueva community from the fall of 1996 through the spring of 2000, leading the show choir (then known as “Silverado”) to its first Showfest Championship in 1998. 

Mrs. Amend is very happily married to Marshall Amend, a contract administrator for SAIC Corporation, and has two wonderful sons, Paul and Craig, who both attend UNM.   Her extended family is involved in music in Albuquerque, especially at their home church, St. John’s United Methodist.  Mrs. Amend enjoys composing music, watching movies, photography and travel.
